I’m back from my summer hols and autumn seems to have arrived early, along with falling corn prices and a lot of depressed farmers.

Rent reviews will be a challenge, with landlords having served notices last year amid general euphoria and tenants determined not to have to pay any more rent this year.

I predict tougher negotiations than in recent years and I have one or two live arbitrations, something that has become increasingly rare over that last few years. As always, I will urge parties to think about mediation as a quick, effective way to settle the rent review, without the costs of arbitration both in terms of money and damage to the landlord – tenant relationship.
